The Meaty Preview: 2009 AL EAST

Probably the most popular division in all of baseball with teams like the Red Sox and Yankees, this division will be a fight to the end.  Look for the Baltimore Orioles to hover in the lower tier of the AL this year.  They have some young talent in Adam Jones (who finally took a new picture on Yahoo! Sports) and Matt Wieters but look for them to be finished early.  The Blue Jays have potential with guys like Roy Halladay and Alex Rios, but with a declining and injury prone Vernon Wells and no other proven pitchers, I have them finishing 4th in the AL East this year.  The Rays will finish in the 3rd spot this year merely for the fact that there are two other teams that will finish better than them.  Last season was definitely not a fluke but I think the Yankees are back and will take the Rays spot come October.  The Red Sox will finish second and take the Wild Card this season as they are, top to bottom, probably the most consistent team in baseball.  Kevin Youkilis picked up right where he left off last season and with Jason Bay for the entire season, the Red Sox will finish strong and can make a serious push in the playoffs.  Finishing atop the AL East we have the Yankees.  Finally with some talent in the pitching staff with the beast animal of C.C. Sabathia and ex-Marlin (from years ago) A.J. Burnett, the Yankees, combined with their new addition in Mark Teixera, will be back in the playoff mix and making a lot of noise in the post season.
