The Meaty Preview: 2009 Eastern Conference, Round 2

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Atlanta Hawks
The Cavaliers have been sitting on their butts for what seems like months now due to their massacre of the Team Formerly Known as the Detroit Pistons. That series marked the end (finally!) and beginning of an era. The Cavs are finally getting their old-man strength and the pistons are turning into that 40 year old at the gym with two knee braces, goggles, and a headband who is keeling over within twenty minutes.
The Cavs on the other hand are on a mission and basically, “Don’t stand on the tracks when the train is coming through.” They’re really good. Their defensive switches are on point, their ball-movement is great, and at the end of the day, they have LeBron James. The Hawks were able to take advantage of the small Miami Heat forwards and their comatose center. The Cavs have neither of those.
This isn’t a question of will or won’t the Cavs win. It’s a matter of when. It’s either in four or five games. To decide, I’m flipping a coin. Tails in four, Heads in five. It came out heads.
Prediction: Cavs in five.

Boston Celtics vs. Orlando Magic.
Here is where I think the Celtics are really going to miss Kevin Garnett. After the epic series we just witnessed, I’m not positive the Celtics have enough left in their tank. They had some trouble with Joakim Noah. Can they handle Dwight Howard?
We’ve also witnessed the emergence of Rajon Rondo as a legit NBA point guard. I may even buy his jersey. Who on the Magic can cover him? Answer: No one. With the exception of Dwight, I think the Celtics match up rather nicely with the Magic.
The Magic didn’t dominate a very weak Sixers team. If the Celtics can get back to playing defense with the intensity we’ve grown accustomed to, I think they can win this series. I may be setting myself up for an emotional break down with this one.
Prediction: Celtics in six.
