The Meaty Preview: 2009 AL CENTRAL

At the bottom of the AL Central we have the Kansas City Royals. A lot of analysts have them as the "team to watch" as they have a bunch of young talent. I can see them being a dangerous team, IF THEY PERFORM. Billy Butler and Alex Gordon have yet to show anything so until they do, in last place they shall remain. In 4th we have the Chicago White Sox. With little to write home about, and since I don't have a pencil, they really don't have much to offer. If Carlos Quentin repeats his numbers from last year, Jim Thome stays healthy and has another 30+ dong year, and Paul Konerko repeats what he did a couple years ago in his prime, then look for the Sox to make a late season push. That is a lot to count on, and I can't count. In 3rd we have the Minnesota Twins. With the loss of Joe Mauer to start the season, the Twins will need production from everyone else. If Morneau doesn't hit 30 dongs this year, look for the Twins to come up short. Francisco Liriano needs a season from 2007 for this team to make a push. In the 2nd spot we have the Detroit Tigers. Something about this team just isn't right. They have the ultimate hitter in Miggy Cabrera but the team just hasn't "clicked" yet. I have a soft spot in my heart for these guys and it saddens me to put them in 2nd place and not winning the division. If Justin Verlander can bounce back and win 15+ then they will have a shot. Taking home the division we have the Cleveland Indians. Losing CC Sabathia will hurt them, leaving reigning Cy Young Winner Cliff Lee with all the weight on his shoulders. Look for Travis Hafner to have a bounceback year, and potential MVP Grady "Enzyte Gives You" Sizemore will have another 30/30 and potentially 35/35 season. If Jhonny Peralta and Victor Martinez can have decent years then look for this team to be sitting pretty atop the division for a while.
