Jandro's Top Five

A few years ago I had an idea for a website: TopTenLists.Com. I even bought a URL for it. The purpose of the site would be a place where people could simply find top ten lists about absolutely anything. For example, top ten restaurants in a certain city, top ten basketball players, top ten cities to visit, etc. etc. Clearly it would be very subjective, but with enough people weighing in with their opinions I felt it could be a decent enough site. Unfortunately at the end of the day, I’m an inherently lazy person. The URL was as far as I would take it.

Now, with the web developing expertise of BP, the combination of ideas from our in-house writers (although Big Eisy and HBomb are clearly not carrying their weight), and the great contributions from our many fantastic guest writers,  we are clearly seeing the birth of the greatest website ever (TML). Speaking of Eisy and Hbomb: Eisy’s bracket bombed. Also, we keep featuring HBomb as a contributor, but I’ve yet to see anything from her other than delicious baked goods. I think a performance review is in order.

Back to the point. Yesterday, one of my coworkers told me he had just bought his plane ticket to South Africa to see the World Cup in 2010. I personally think that’s pretty cool. I don’t even like soccer, but I feel like watching a World Cup match would be an incredible experience. Just think about the crowd atmosphere during an Argentina vs. Brazil game, or something like that. I’ve already spoken to my brothers and my dad and I think a trip to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup is in the works. If not, word on the street is that in 2018 the World Cup could be in the U.S. The point being, I would love to go to a World Cup one day.

So this got me thinking, what are some of the sports events that I would most want to attend in my lifetime? I think a top ten list is in order. So, for the first time ever, brace yourselves for a Jandro’s Top Ten.

After giving it some thought, it has to be a Jandro’s Top Five. Ten is a lot. It’s not that I can’t come up with ten different events, it’s just that after five or six, they all kind of have the same importance. So for the sake of quality and time, rather than quantity, we’re going to keep it at five.

Please feel free to weigh in on my choices. In fact, submit your own. My e-mail is Jandro@TheMeatyLasagna.com. I’m not sure what BP’s address is but since he posts everything he can just tell you guys his e-mail when he posts. Without further adieu, Jandro’s Top Five Sports Events (#1 being the best, #5 being not so important):

  1. NBA Basketball Finals Game 7. I love basketball. I love game sevens. Especially if the Heat are involved.
  2. NFL Conference Championship. The Super Bowl isn’t that great. Plus, that means I’d be missing Uncle Sid’s Super Bowl Party. (If you know his wife’s friends and my taste for aged meat, you know why I enjoy that party). However, if I got to go to the Playboy, Maxim, or any other magazine’s SB party, all bets are off.
  3. World Cup Game. Just the thought of all the cheering Brazilians, Argentines, or any other South/Latin American Country gives me chills. Ole Ole Ole Ole. Goallllllllllllll Goalllllllllll Goalllllllll.
  4. Olympics. Sure, some sports wouldn’t be as fun as others, but there’s something to be said abut international competition. The stakes just seem higher. I know no one saw the Spain vs. USA basketball final, but that was easily one of the best games I’ve ever seen. International play seems to bring out the best in the athletes as well as the crowd. Unless of course it’s the WBC and you’re the USA team.
  5. NCAA Final Four. I don’t like college basketball. March Madness is a different story.

I’m sure I forgot to include plenty of great sports events. I realize I don’t have a college football championship game. But, as the great Spike says, I don’t “have” a college football team. Plus, there’s too many things wrong with that system. We won’t get into it. So tell me readers, what’s your top five? or ten?
